Italiacamp Celebrates Italian Excellence at Villaggio Italia in Abu Dhabi
On the occasion of the Emirati stop of the Vespucci Tour, the global journey of the legendary training ship Amerigo Vespucci, Italiacamp participated with two initiatives aimed at showcasing the tradition and innovation of Italian nautical excellence.
Vespucci Camp – Little Explorers: Create the Vespucci’s Next Journey
On December 29 and 30, young visitors to Villaggio Italia had the opportunity to delve into the history of the legendary Amerigo Vespucci training ship through an interactive experience: imagining and designing the ship’s next voyage on a creative map. This initiative inspired new generations by celebrating Italian culture and tradition in a global context, fostering their creativity and interest in exploration and discovery.
Panel Discussion: “From Amerigo Vespucci to Luna Rossa: 100 Years of Italian Excellence: Knowledge, Technologies, and Innovations”
On December 29, the panel explored the stories that have positioned Italy as a leader in the nautical and technological sectors, highlighting the connection between the Amerigo Vespucci and Luna Rossa as symbols of Italy’s heritage and innovation.
This journey through the remarkable legacy of Italian maritime innovation included contributions from Admiral Aurelio De Carolis, Commander-in-Chief of the Italian Fleet; Matteo Plazzi, Rules Advisor for the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team; Andrea Stella, President of the Spirito di Stella Association and Founder of the Wheels on Waves project; Francesco Rocco, Founder of the Italian Choice Sailing Team; and Adil Khalid, UAE Olympic sailor and Volvo Ocean Race winner.
The panel delved into topics such as the balance between tradition and progress, inclusivity, and technological transformation. It emphasized how the Italian maritime tradition, embodied by the Amerigo Vespucci, represents a model of historical continuity capable of evolving through the adoption of cutting-edge technologies.
The Amerigo Vespucci stands as a cultural icon and a training model that combines established knowledge with innovative approaches. Similarly, the advancements introduced by Luna Rossa in competitive sailing demonstrate Italian excellence in technological innovation and advanced design. These two symbols of Made in Italy illustrate Italy’s ability to harmonize deeply rooted values with a forward-looking vision, fostering a constant dialogue between tradition and innovation.
During the discussion, the contributions of pioneering Italian and Emirati figures were analyzed. Additionally, through stories of inclusive design and shared values, the panel provided insights on how to expand the boundaries of what is possible and inspire the future.
